  • What is a Challenge?
A Challenge is a musical contest organized by a JamChallenged community member who creates the rules for other participants to follow when joining it. There are no rules when it comes to Challenge rules, make it fun, get creative, the sky’s the limit.

  • Why should I join a Challenge?
To improve your skills as a musician! This community is all about inspiring you to practice more and step out of your comfort zone with fun and unique challenges. It keeps things fresh and exciting, helping you grow as a musician while having a great time. How awesome is that?

First you must become a member of the JamChallenged community by following the steps from getting started. Then, check out the Joining a challenge chapter from How it works section.
  • Why should I create my own Challenges?
Creating Challenges is completely optional! However, it comes with some great benefits. It can help you gain new perspectives (like improving improvisation), boost creativity, increase your visibility in the community, keep you motivated to practice and upload your own response, showcasing your style, testing your ideas and developing consistency to name a few. If you prefer just participating, that’s totally fine too, but as a Community member, you have the option to create Challenges whenever you feel like it!
  • Can I create my own Challenge?

  • How do I get feedback on my submissions?
You can receive feedback on your Challenge submissions in two ways: In the Community Channels: Share your submission and get feedback in channels like #general, #practice-tips, #recording-tips, or #playing-feedback. On YouTube Comments: If you’ve enabled comments on your YouTube video, other members can leave feedback there directly.
  • Why can’t I get feedback directly in the Challenge?
To keep the Challenge simple and focused on YouTube video replies, we ask members to share feedback in the dedicated Community channels or directly on YouTube. You’re welcome to request feedback in those channels.

  • What languages are supported in this community?
Since music is a universal language, we aim to be as inclusive as possible. To keep communication clear and accessible for everyone worldwide, English is the only language used in the community, so please refrain from using other languages.
  • What instruments are supported in this community?
We welcome all instruments—including your voice! For the most popular instruments, we’ve created dedicated channels (piano, guitar, violin, drums, voice, saxophone, flute, cello, clarinet, trumpet) in the Challenges category, each with three difficulty levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. If your instrument isn’t listed, don’t worry! We have a miscellaneous channel with the same difficulty levels for all other instruments. As the community grows, we’ll add more dedicated channels for specific instruments based on demand.
  • How are the skill/difficulty levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced) defined?
JamChallenged is designed for non-professional musicians—people still learning to master their instruments. While professional musicians are welcome to join and share their expertise, 99% of challenges are aimed at learners. Occasionally, we may introduce challenges for professionals, but these will be rare exceptions. To keep the community fair and motivating for everyone, we define skill levels as follows: Beginner – Learning the basics and getting comfortable with the instrument (0-2 years of experience). Focuses on technique, simple exercises, and easy songs. Intermediate – Confidently playing with good control and technique (2-5 years of experience). Can handle more complex pieces, rhythms, and improvisation while developing musical expression. Advanced – Skilled and experienced but not yet at a professional level (5+ years of experience). Can play most standard repertoire, perform complex pieces, and adapt to different musical styles with ease. These are general guidelines, and exceptions exist. Skill level depends more on practice time than years of experience. For example, someone with 20 years of casual playing may have a lower skill level than someone with just 1 year of consistent, focused practice (e.g., 30 minutes daily). The key is regular, structured practice—that’s what makes the difference and the core of this community!
  • What do I do if members join my Challenge but don’t follow the rules or don’t reply with videos as expected?
Report users who break the Terms of Service, community rules, spam, or violate Challenge rules. Moderators may escalate the issue to Discord if necessary. You can report to moderators by: Posting in the #reports channel in the Community category. Sending a direct message to any moderator. Using the contact form to send an email.
  • What if an advanced member joins an intermediate challenge? What should I do?
Everyone is free to join challenges at the skill level they feel comfortable with. However, we encourage members to choose the level that best matches their abilities—this helps with personal growth and keeps the challenges fair and motivating for everyone. If you believe someone is consistently joining lower-level challenges in a way that discourages others, please report it to the moderators. We’re here to keep the community fun and supportive for all!
  • How do I report members who break the rules?
There are two ways to report rule violations, depending on the type: 1. Reporting to Community Moderators: Report users who break the Terms of Service, community guidelines, spam, or violate Challenge rules. Moderators may escalate the issue to Discord if necessary. You can report to moderators by: Posting in the #reports channel in the Community category. Sending a direct message to any moderator. Using the contact form. 2. Reporting directly to Discord: If a user violates Discord’s Terms of Service, you can report them directly to Discord: Right-click the user or message. Select the Report option. Provide the reason and submit the report.
  • I’ve been kicked or banned unfairly. What can I do?
Sorry to hear that! If you believe you were suspended unfairly, fill out the contact form to send us an email. Be sure to include all the details, such as the context, your username, the moderator involved, and your email for a reply.
  • Can I become a Moderator?
Absolutely! Start by helping the community by reporting rule violations and supporting moderation efforts. Over time, you may be promoted to Moderator. Keep in mind that being a Moderator is a privilege and does not include any monetary compensation.
  • Why do I see a countdown timer when trying to reply?
Some channels have a slow mode, which limits the frequency of messages in a certain timeframe. This helps keep discussions clear and prevents spam. Just wait for the timer to finish before sending your next message.
  • How can I get more votes?
Ask people to vote for you on Discord by mentioning it in your video! You can also share the challenge on social media and invite friends to support you. Make sure to include a link to the Discord challenge in your YouTube video description, comments, or social media posts so people can easily find and vote for you!
  • How can I stop getting so many Discord notifications?
JamChallenged has many channels, but you might not be interested in all of them. To get notifications only from the ones you care about, mute the channels you don’t need. You can also hide muted channels to keep your server view clutter-free. You have full control over these settings! Check out these guides for step-by-step instructions: How do I mute and disable notifications for specific channels? How do I hide muted channels?
  • Why can’t I post another challenge right after submitting one?
To prevent spam, there’s a limit on the frequency of posts which can be performed in a certain timeframe. If you recently posted a challenge, you’ll need to wait a bit before adding another.
  • What kind of content can I share?
You can share videos of your musical performances with your instrument(s), including your voice. Please stick to the purpose of the Challenge. Only post content you own or have permission to share. Avoid copyrighted material unless you’ve obtained proper permissions.
  • What if my question hasn’t been answered?
If you still need help, you can reach out to a moderator on Discord or use the contact form to send us an email. We’re happy to assist!
